11/4/2009 - San Antonio, TX -- The USAF Band of the West will be touring Arizona from November 11 to November 20, and with it, it's newest member, Audio Engineer Airman First Class (A1C) Brian Lumpkin. A native of Mesa, Arizona and a graduate of Highland High School, A1C Lumpkin attended Mesa Community College, eventually earning two Associates Degrees: one in Audio Production Technologies with emphasis in Live Sound and the other with emphasis in Sound Design for Theatre and Film. Previously, A1C Lumpkin has provided sound and technical support for artists such as Little Richard, Samuel Pilafian, Arizona State University's Sun Devil Marching Band and the Arizona Academy Drum and Bugle Corps. A1C Lumpkin has also been adjunct faculty at Mesa Community College, instructing Electronic Music classes.  The Band of the West will be performing in Mesa at the Mesa Arts Center on November 18th, 2009 at 7:30pm.

A1C Lumpkin joined the USAF Band of the west in the summer of 2009. His favorite part of the job is having the opportunity to work with both state of the art and vintage equipment, and seeing the audience's reaction when they hear the final sound product. Recently, the Band of the West's horn band, Warhawk, performed at Red Ribbon Week in San Antonio for over 10,000 elementary and middle school students. This was A1C Lumpkin's favorite performance as an Audio Engineer so far. "It was cool how they treated us like rock stars; the whole environment was just like a real rock concert, and I was part of making that happen," said A1C Lumpkin. In the future, he is looking forward to more traveling and the challenges that come with making any ensemble sound fantastic in any venue.

The Band of the West will be performing in several cities in the Tucson and Phoenix areas. Featured soloists will be SSgt Chantelle Friedman on clarinet and SrA Melissa Crews on horn. Vocalist SSgt Mary Beth McFann will be featured on a number of tunes, ranging in styles from country to jazz.
