3/26/2010 - LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Band of the West is busy preparing for Fiesta in Blue 2010! This year's Fiesta in Blue, entitled "Latin American Legends" features a wide variety of Latin music, singers, dancers, a local celebrity and a special tribute to our veterans.

This year's guest emcee, Mr. Randy Beamer, is the Emmy Award winning weekday co-anchor and photojournalist for News 4, WOAI. Mr. Beamer has shot and reported news from all over the country and around the world, focusing on all kinds of stories involving and important to South Texans.  He added a bulletproof vest to his gear in Iraq for a series of reports and an hour-long, commercial-free documentary on the many San Antonians who run the largest hospital in Iraq. In Sri Lanka, he took viewers into the
devastation of the tsunami and the work of San Antonians in the relief efforts. He flew with a medical team into hurricane-ravaged New Orleans.  And he's gone deep into Mexico to look at exactly what drives people to cross illegally into the U.S. He also volunteers as a speaker and emcee at dozens of community fundraisers.  For several years, the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters have recognized him as one of the top anchors in Texas. He has won three Emmy Awards, an Edward R. Murrow Award, and many others over the years for reporting, anchoring, photography and commentary.

The Band of the West welcomes guest performers Fandango and Alamotion to this year's Fiesta in Blue performance. The San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department is celebrating 75 years of dance instruction that began in 1934 by the founder Berta Almaguer who has served our citizens for 36 years. The tradition of excellence still continues today with the department's instruction, support and their participation in almost every major cultural event in San Antonio. Two pre-professional dance troupes, Alamotion and Fandango, help round out the advanced level dance program. Alamotion focuses on tap, ballet, jazz and hip hop dance forms. Fandango explores Mexican folkloric and flamenco. Both award winning dance troupes perform at the Arneson River Theater every summer for BRAVO! An Evening of Song and Dance, and at various
special events throughout the city.

We hope to see you at this year's Fiesta in Blue! As always, this is a free event, but tickets are required. To obtain tickets, please visit or send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:
