10/21/2010 - San Antonio, TX -- Top Flight, the Band of the West's rock band, performed for thousands of elementary school students from San Antonio this week in support of Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week is a national observance to raise awareness in youth to make the right decisions concerning substance abuse and inform them on the dangers of drugs. San Antonio is home to the longest running "Just Say No" celebration in the country.

Master of Ceremonies and Red Ribbon Week host, Sonny Melendrez, entertained the students before Top Flight took the stage. He and his special friend, Bono Duck, spoke to the students about the importance of saying no to drugs, tobacco and alcohol and staying in school. Students were then led in the singing of the National Anthem by Master Sergeant Donna Siler. After the anthem, special guests from Sea World were introduced: Pete and Penny Penguin, and Shamu! Other special guests included El Rey Feo 2010, Baltazar "Walter" Serna and the 2010 Fiesta Princess. Serna also spoke to the students about the importance of staying in school in order to be successful. "Education is the key to reaching your dreams," he told students. The students were then led in the Red Ribbon Pledge, affirming their commitment to staying drug and alcohol free.

After much anticipation, Melendrez introduced Top Flight and they wowed students with their high energy, up-tempo show. They performed a wide variety of music; anything from Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber to tunes made popular by the hit television show Glee. During the show, members of Top Flight promoted important messages, such as "Stay in School", "Don't Be A Bully" and especially, "Say No To Drugs".
